Named after the great Middle-European writer Gregor von Rezzori (1914-1998) who lived and worked for more than 30 years at Santa Maddalena, in the hills of the Valdarno, the Premio Vallombrosa Gregor von Rezzori aims to deepen Italy's knowledge of the best international literature.

The award goes to an author of a foreign work of fiction translated into Italian. A second award focuses on the best translation of an important work of fiction.

With this fourth edition, which is realized in cooperation with the Comune, the Provincia di Firenze and the Regione Toscana, the prize, whose events include meetings with the finalists, readings, and the Lectio Magistralis, resembles more and more a literary festival. In addition to the historical locations, the involvement of the city's theaters and bookstores gives an important opportunity to Florence to open its doors to the culture of the entire world.

Born from the initiative of Beatrice Monti della Corte von Rezzori, the event benefits from the experience of the prestigious Santa Maddalena Foundation, which since 2000 has received more than 120 writers of very different nationalities for working fellowships.
